Police Conduct Surprise Raids on College Hostels and Residences in Coimbatore Suburbs

Police conducted surprise checks on private college student hostels and residences in Coimbatore suburbs to curb drug circulation. The raids, ordered by District Superintendent of Police Karthikeyan, aimed to detect any drug use or possession among students.

Coimbatore: The police department conducted sudden raids on hostels and private residences where college students are staying in the suburban areas of Coimbatore. The operation was carried out to check for the circulation and use of narcotic substances among students.

Various arts, science, and engineering colleges are functioning in the Kovilpalayam, Saravanampatti, and Athipalayam areas of Coimbatore district. The raids were conducted under the orders of District Superintendent of Police Karthikeyan, led by Karumathampatti Deputy Superintendent of Police Thangaraman, along with Kovilpalayam Inspector Selvi and other police personnel. The primary objective was to determine if students were using drugs or if any narcotic substances were being stored in the hostels.

As some students prefer to rent private accommodations instead of staying in hostels, the police extended their searches to these rented houses as well. According to sources, during the raid, high-value narcotic substances were reportedly seized from some of the rooms where students were staying. The police have stated that such inspections will continue in all student hostels across the region.

This operation is part of a larger initiative across Tamil Nadu, where law enforcement agencies are maintaining vigilant surveillance on student accommodations to curb drug usage. The police have emphasized their commitment to conducting regular checks in all student hostels to prevent the spread of drug abuse among the youth.
