Health Officials Conduct Screenings at Gopanari Checkpoint in Response to Nipah Virus Outbreak in Kerala

Following a death due to Nipah virus in Kerala, health officials at the Gopanari checkpoint on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border are screening travelers entering Tamil Nadu for symptoms.


Coimbatore: In response to a recent death caused by the Nipah virus in Kerala, Tamil Nadu health officials have intensified screening measures at the Gopanari checkpoint on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border. The move aims to monitor and prevent the potential spread of the virus into Tamil Nadu.

Dr. Pravin, Medical Officer from Karamadai Primary Health Center, along with nurse Vijayalakshmi, pharmacist Anthony, and Sub-Inspectors Thangavelu and Sivaraj, are conducting thermal screenings of all travelers entering Tamil Nadu from Kerala. The team is checking body temperatures and looking for any visible symptoms associated with the Nipah virus.



The Health Department has stated that only after thorough health checks are travelers from Kerala allowed to enter Tamil Nadu. This vigilant monitoring process will continue as a precautionary measure to safeguard public health in the state.

The screening at Gopanari checkpoint underscores the proactive approach taken by Tamil Nadu authorities to prevent any potential outbreak. As the situation in Kerala continues to be monitored, health officials in Tamil Nadu remain on high alert, ready to respond to any developments related to the Nipah virus threat.
