Man from Narikurava community stages sit-in protest at Pollachi Sub-Collector's office over water scarcity

A Narikurava community member staged a dramatic sit-in protest at the Pollachi Sub-Collector's office, demanding water supply for his colony. The protest highlighted the community's struggle with water scarcity for three months.

Coimbatore: In a dramatic turn of events, a man from the Narikurava community staged a sit-in protest at the Pollachi Sub-Collector's office, causing a stir among officials and onlookers. The protester, identified as Prabu Deva from the Narikurava colony in Kullakkapalayam Panchayat near Pollachi, parked his two-wheeler and sat on the ground within the office premises.

Prabu Deva's protest highlighted the severe water crisis faced by his community. He claimed that their colony had not received water supply for the past three months, despite repeated requests and even offering various items to local officials. "We gave them money, quails, guinea fowls, and rabbits. But we haven't received drinking water for three months. Will they ask for deer next? Will the forest department allow that?" he questioned, expressing his frustration.

Revenue department officials, alerted by the sudden protest, approached Prabu Deva to inquire about the situation. He explained that the colony had been struggling without even a drop of drinking water. The protester alleged that the Panchayat President and other representatives frequently demanded money and various animals from the community but failed to provide water supply.

The incident drew significant attention, with Prabu Deva's impassioned words creating a tense atmosphere at the Sub-Collector's office. Revenue department officials promptly informed the police about the situation. Subsequently, police personnel from the East Police Station arrived at the scene and escorted Prabu Deva to the police station for further inquiry.

The protest has brought to light the ongoing water scarcity issues faced by the Narikurava community in Kullakkapalayam Panchayat, raising questions about the local administration's response to their basic needs.
