Wild elephant kills cow in Naickenpalayam, Coimbatore; residents demand action

Coimbatore: In a concerning incident, a lone wild elephant entered a farm in Naickenpalayam near Periyanaickenpalayam, Coimbatore, killing a cow and damaging crops. The event, which occurred late at night, has sparked fear among local residents.

Areas such as Kovannur and Naickenpalayam, located at the foothills of Palamalai near Periyanaickenpalayam, have been experiencing frequent visits from wild elephants. These animals often cause damage to crops in the region.

Around 1 AM, a lone wild elephant entered the farm owned by Selvaraj in Naickenpalayam.



The elephant not only destroyed crops but also fatally gored a cow that was tied up in the farm.

Hearing the commotion, Selvaraj alerted the Periyanaickenpalayam Forest Department. Forest officials arrived at the scene and managed to drive the elephant back into the forest. The incident of the elephant killing the cow has created a sense of panic among the residents in the area.

Local residents have appealed to the Forest Department to take necessary measures to prevent wild elephants from entering farmlands and residential areas. They are seeking immediate action to ensure the safety of both people and livestock in the region.
