Coimbatore: A national-level Taekwondo competition for Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) schools was held at Disha International Higher Secondary School in Aachipatti near Pollachi on September 9. The event saw participation from over 600 students representing 13 states and 32 districts, including Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, and Puducherry.

The competition featured 69 categories across three age groups: 14, 17, and 19 years, conducted in a knockout format. For the first time in such an event, the internationally recognized PSS (Protector and Scoring System) method was implemented, with matches recorded through sensors.

According to the competition coordinators, students who secure gold medals in this event will qualify to participate in international-level competitions to be held in Madhya Pradesh. This opportunity opens doors for young athletes to showcase their skills on a global platform.

Godandan, a trainer at the event, emphasized the importance of such competitions in nurturing talent and promoting the sport of Taekwondo among school students. He also highlighted the rigorous training and preparation that participants undergo to compete at this level.

The event not only serves as a platform for students to display their martial arts prowess but also fosters a spirit of sportsmanship and cultural exchange among participants from various parts of the country.
