Agriculture Minister Chairs Review Meeting for Coimbatore, Erode, and Tirupur Districts

Agriculture Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam led a regional review meeting in Coimbatore for Coimbatore, Erode, and Tirupur districts. The meeting discussed various agricultural issues and welfare schemes for farmers.


Coimbatore: A regional review meeting for Coimbatore, Erode, and Tiruppur districts was held today (Sep. 03) at the Coimbatore District Collector's office conference hall. The meeting was organized by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam chaired the meeting, which was attended by Tamil Development and Information Minister M.P. Saminathan, Coimbatore MP Ganapathi Rajkumar, Pollachi MP Eswaran, and officials from the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.



During the review meeting, subsidy assistance orders were distributed to beneficiaries.



Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam stated that a farmers' meeting was held in Pollachi with officials regarding the coconut wilt disease. He mentioned that authorities and students from the Agricultural University had conducted intensive research on the issue. The minister revealed that medicines and welfare schemes worth nearly 22 crore rupees had been provided to prevent coconut wilt disease.

Responding to a question about the government horticultural farm at Kallar being on an elephant corridor, the minister said that the action was taken by the court and the Tamil Nadu government was taking appropriate legal measures in this regard. He also mentioned that copra procurement had been intensified and that the state government was putting pressure on the central government regarding this matter.

The minister highlighted that in the past four years, 985 crore rupees had been provided to farmers as paddy incentives. Additionally, 945 crore rupees had been distributed to 13 lakh farmers affected by natural disasters. He emphasized that the government was addressing farmers' issues by visiting affected areas and providing immediate relief, while also working on long-term solutions for persistent problems.
