Two TNSTC Officials Suspended After Viral Video Shows Cracked Floor Board in Government Bus

A video showing a cracked floor board in a government bus in Coimbatore went viral, leading to the suspension of two TNSTC officials. The incident sparked a debate on passenger safety.

Coimbatore: Two Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) officials have been suspended after a video showing a cracked floor board in a government bus went viral on social media. The incident, which occurred on a bus plying between Singanallur and Kurumbapalayam in Coimbatore district, has raised concerns about passenger safety and bus maintenance.

The controversy began when a passenger named Vishnu from Kurumbapalayam area boarded the bus number 110 two days ago. Upon taking his seat near the wheel, Vishnu noticed a crack in the floor board, through which the moving wheels of the bus were visible. Alarmed by this discovery, he questioned the bus conductor about the safety of the floor board.

The exchange between Vishnu and the conductor quickly escalated into an argument when the latter failed to provide a satisfactory response. Vishnu then recorded a video of the damaged floor board and the ensuing confrontation, which he later shared on social media platforms.

As the video gained traction online, authorities were forced to take action. The Coimbatore Divisional Manager of TNSTC issued an order temporarily suspending two officials: Manivanan, the Branch Manager of Ondipudur depot, and Srinivasan, the Assistant Engineer.

This incident has sparked a debate about the maintenance standards of government buses and the need for regular safety inspections. It has also highlighted the power of social media in bringing attention to public safety issues and prompting swift action from authorities.

The TNSTC has not yet released an official statement regarding plans to improve bus maintenance procedures or prevent similar incidents in the future. However, the swift action taken against the officials indicates that the department is taking the matter seriously.

As this story continues to develop, passengers and citizens alike are calling for more transparent and rigorous safety measures to ensure the well-being of those who rely on public transportation daily.
