District Collector Announces Guidelines for Eco-Friendly Ganesh Idol Immersion

Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati issues guidelines for Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, emphasizing the use of clay idols and designated water bodies for immersion to protect the environment.

Coimbatore: District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati has issued a press release outlining guidelines for the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival. The administration has urged the public to cooperate in protecting the environment by immersing idols only in designated water bodies specified by the district authorities.

The release emphasizes that only idols made of clay and other eco-friendly materials that do not contain Plaster of Paris, plastic, or thermocol should be immersed in water. These guidelines aim to minimize the environmental impact of the festival celebrations.

For idol decoration, the use of environmentally friendly materials such as straw is recommended. The administration strictly prohibits the use of toxic and non-biodegradable chemical paints and oils for coloring the idols. Instead, people are encouraged to use natural, non-toxic, and biodegradable dyes that are eco-friendly.

The District Collector has advised the public to contact the District Collector's office, the Superintendent of Police, or the District Environmental Engineer for any additional information regarding these guidelines. This proactive approach aims to ensure a balance between religious observance and environmental conservation during the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in Coimbatore.
