Indian T20 Captain Suryakumar Yadav Visits Young Cancer Patients in Coimbatore

Indian T20 cricket captain Suryakumar Yadav and team members visited 14 children receiving free cancer treatment at Sri Ramakrishna Hospital's Cancer Research and Treatment Center in Coimbatore on August 30, 2024.

Coimbatore: Indian T20 cricket captain Suryakumar Yadav and team members, including Shreyas Iyer, made a heartwarming visit to the Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Oncology and Research (SRIOR) in Coimbatore on August 30, 2024. The cricket stars, in town for the Puchi Babu Cricket Tournament 2024, spent time with 14 children receiving free cancer treatment at the facility.

The young patients warmly welcomed Yadav and his team with red roses, creating a touching atmosphere in the free cancer treatment ward. The cricketers reciprocated by signing miniature cricket bats for the children and presenting them with gifts. Suryakumar Yadav engaged in conversations with some of the children, inquiring about their interests and aspirations.

In a gesture of appreciation, the children presented Yadav and Iyer with their portraits as mementos. The cricket team expressed their wishes for the speedy recovery of all the young patients. Yadav took a keen interest in understanding the treatment protocols and duration from Dr. P. Guhan, Director of SRIOR.

Dr. Guhan provided insights into the treatments offered and their outcomes. He informed Yadav that the ward was inaugurated by former Indian President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in 2005 and has since provided free treatment to over 1,000 children affected by cancer.

Suryakumar Yadav commended the dedication of SRIOR's oncology department and the substantial support provided by Sri Ramakrishna Hospital for this noble cause. The cricketer, who became a national hero after his spectacular catch in the 2024 T20 World Cup final against South Africa, once again won hearts with his compassionate gesture towards these young cancer fighters.

The visit was attended by R. Sundar, Joint Managing Trustee of SNR & Sons Charitable Trust, C.V. Ramkumar, CEO, Dr. P. Guhan, Director of SRIOR, and Dr. Karthikeyan, Surgical Oncologist. This event not only brought smiles to the faces of the young patients but also highlighted the crucial work being done at SRIOR in the fight against childhood cancer.

The interaction between the cricket stars and the young patients served as a reminder of the power of sports personalities to inspire and uplift those facing challenging circumstances. Suryakumar Yadav's visit to SRIOR has undoubtedly left a lasting impact on the children, potentially boosting their morale in their battle against cancer.
