Coimbatore's Biryani Eating Contest Draws Huge Crowds with Cash Prizes

A unique biryani eating competition in Coimbatore attracted food enthusiasts from Tamil Nadu and Kerala, offering cash prizes up to Rs. 1 lakh for consuming a specified quantity of biryani within 30 minutes.



Coimbatore: A novel biryani eating contest in Coimbatore has captured the attention of food enthusiasts, drawing participants from across Tamil Nadu and even Kerala. The event, held at Pochhe Food Express near Coimbatore Railway Station, offered substantial cash prizes for those who could consume a specified quantity of biryani within a set time limit.

The contest, advertised on social media, promised prizes of Rs. 25,000 for eating 3 servings of biryani, Rs. 50,000 for 4 servings, and a whopping Rs. 1 lakh for consuming 6 servings. The organizers were overwhelmed when the turnout exceeded their expectations by five times, with participants likened to eager movie fans flocking to a new release.



Participants were divided into groups and given tokens for the chicken biryani eating challenge. The contest rules allowed 30 minutes for contestants to consume the specified quantity of biryani. Both men and women enthusiastically participated, diving into the generous portions served in large containers.



The event took an emotional turn when Ganesh Moorthy, a participant, revealed that he joined the contest hoping to win prize money for his son affected by autism. This heartwarming gesture resonated with many present at the venue.

Organizers stated that the event aimed to promote biryani consumption and help those in need. They expressed plans to conduct similar contests with cash prizes in the future, focusing on bringing joy to the public and extending support to those requiring assistance.



The biryani eating contest not only attracted locals but also drew "food connoisseurs" from neighboring Kerala, all eager to savor and enjoy the flavors of Coimbatore's biryani. The event's success has paved the way for more such unique food-related competitions in the future, combining the love for food with the spirit of community support.
