ZF Wind Power Coimbatore Achieves 50 Gigawatts Milestone in Wind Gearbox Production

ZF Wind Power's Coimbatore plant becomes the first in India to produce 50 GW of wind gearboxes, showcasing its commitment to India's renewable energy sector and global sustainability goals.

Coimbatore: ZF Wind Power, a global leader in wind turbine gearbox manufacturing, has announced a significant milestone at its Coimbatore facility.

The plant has become the first in India to achieve a total production capacity of 50 Gigawatts (GW) of wind gearboxes, reinforcing ZF's commitment to India's renewable energy landscape and global sustainability goals.

The Coimbatore plant, which is the largest wind gearbox production facility in the world outside China, has played a crucial role in shaping India's wind energy sector. ZF has invested €230 million in the facility up to December 2023, demonstrating its long-term commitment to the Indian market.

Prof Dr. Peter Laier, Member of the Board of Management, ZF Group, expressed pride in this achievement, stating, "ZF Wind Power is a leading gearbox supplier in India, providing gearboxes to both domestic and global customers under the 'Make in India for India and for the World' initiative. Our investment in expanding production facilities aligns with India's ambition to double its wind power capacity by 2030."

The company has plans to further expand its manufacturing capacity from 9 to 12 GW per year to meet the growing demand in the wind market. Additionally, ZF has installed a 13 MW test rig, strengthening its position as a partner in development and validation.

Akash Passey, President of ZF Group in India, highlighted the company's commitment to sustainability and innovation. He mentioned that ZF has pledged to invest INR 750 crores, as announced during the Global Investors meet in Chennai earlier this year.

Felix Henseler, CEO of ZF Wind Power, emphasized the company's focus on local production and sustainable logistics to minimize ecological footprint while meeting global demand. The Coimbatore facility, spread over 120,000 square meters, also serves as a major service hub and houses a robust research and development center working on global solutions.

This expansion aligns with ZF's broader sustainability goals, including its commitment to carbon neutrality by 2040. The Coimbatore plant incorporates advanced technologies and processes to minimize its environmental impact, contributing to a greener future for India and the world.
