School in Coimbatore Operates Despite Government Holiday, Closes After DEO Intervention

A CBSE school in Coimbatore functioned on Krishna Jayanthi holiday but closed by noon following the District Education Officer's order, sending students home in high spirits.

Coimbatore: On the occasion of Krishna Jayanthi, while the Tamil Nadu government had declared a public holiday, a CBSE school in Coimbatore's Puliyakulam area remained open, leading to intervention by education authorities.

Vidya Niketan, a CBSE curriculum school in Puliyakulam, had organized cultural events for LKG and UKG children to celebrate Krishna Jayanthi. The young students arrived dressed in colorful costumes, portraying Krishna and Radha. However, regular classes were reportedly conducted for other grades, with students attending in their school uniforms.

The matter came to the attention of the District Education Officer (DEO), who promptly issued an order for the school to declare a holiday. Following this directive, the school administration announced a holiday at noon. The school management sent text messages to parents explaining that the school was open in the morning for Krishna Jayanthi cultural events, but would be closing for the day as per the DEO's orders.

Parents were asked to collect their children from the school. The unexpected half-day holiday was met with enthusiasm by the students, who left for home in high spirits.

The incident highlights the importance of adherence to government-declared holidays by all educational institutions, regardless of their board affiliation. It also demonstrates the quick action taken by education authorities to ensure compliance with holiday declarations.
