Tamil Nadu Government Assurance Committee Reviews Welfare Schemes in Coimbatore District

The Tamil Nadu Government Assurance Committee, led by Vel Murugan, conducted a comprehensive review of various welfare schemes in Coimbatore district on Wednesday, focusing on ongoing projects and future plans.

Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Government Assurance Committee, headed by Vel Murugan, MLA of Panruti constituency, is conducting a thorough review of various welfare schemes underway in different parts of Coimbatore district.

The committee began its inspection with the Semmozhi Poonga (Classical Language Park) construction work in Gandhipuram, Coimbatore.

During the review, Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati and Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabhakaran briefed the committee about the Semmozhi Poonga project plans.

Vel Murugan, Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Government Assurance Committee, stated, "We are on this inspection tour with the Secretary, Joint Secretary, and Deputy Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly to review the implementation of welfare schemes announced in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. The committee came to directly inspect the commencement of work on the Semmozhi Poonga in Coimbatore. The Corporation Commissioner and Chief Engineer have explained the ongoing work to the committee with diagrams."

He further elaborated, "The park is planned to be set up on 125 acres. Currently, work is progressing on 45 acres at an estimated cost of 167 crore rupees, as the prison is still occupying part of the land. Once the District Collector relocates the prison, the entire 125 acres will be utilized for this project."

Murugan added, "The promise for the Semmozhi Poonga was given in 2021 (Promise No. 173/2021). The committee has confirmed that the work on the Semmozhi Poonga is progressing as per the Chief Minister's assurance. The work currently underway on 45 acres is set to be completed by May 25, as decided by the District Collector, Corporation Commissioner, and Chief Engineer."

The committee's agenda also includes inspecting other projects:

1. A 54-crore rupee housing project for police personnel

2. Installation of a 2.45-crore rupee steam engine at the Government Medical College

3. Commencement of the 250-crore rupee Western Ring Road project

4. Renovation of the research laboratory at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, allocated 6.8 crore rupees

5. The 5.20-crore rupee ropeway project at Marudhamalai

Murugan concluded, "There are over 100 unfulfilled assurances in Coimbatore district since 2002. We will conduct a review meeting at the District Collector's office to understand why these assurances remain unfulfilled and to provide necessary advice to the officials for their implementation."
