Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan met with Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to present a list of demands for the development of Coimbatore. The MLA expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for deciding to provide land for the Coimbatore Airport expansion project to the Central Government without any conditions.

During the meeting, Vanathi Srinivasan highlighted several key issues and projects for Coimbatore, including:

1. Coimbatore Airport Expansion: The Airports Authority of India is ready to invest over Rs. 1300 crore for the expansion and improvement of facilities at Coimbatore Airport. The MLA urged the state government to hand over the acquired land to the AAI without any conditions to expedite the project.

2. Coimbatore Metro Rail: The MLA requested to accelerate the implementation of the Coimbatore Metro Rail project.

3. Coimbatore Urban Development Authority: Despite being notified, the Coimbatore Urban Development Authority, with jurisdiction over 1,531.5 square kilometers, is not fully functional. The MLA called for its complete implementation.

4. Multi-level parking facilities: The need for multi-level parking facilities in congested areas like Raja Street, Gandhipuram, and Town Hall was emphasized.

5. Gandhipuram flyover extension: The proposed two-tier additional ramp for the Gandhipuram flyover has not been implemented yet.

6. Integrated Metropolitan Transport Authority: The MLA suggested establishing an authority similar to Chennai's CUMTA to coordinate all transport corporations involved in Coimbatore's urban transportation.

7. TK Market renovation: The MLA proposed modernizing the aging Thiyagi Kumaran Market complex to benefit both traders and the public.

8. Coimbatore Master Plan: It was requested that public inputs for the Coimbatore Master Plan be considered, and a meeting with all stakeholders be arranged before implementation.

9. Housing for displaced residents: The MLA highlighted the plight of CMC Colony residents who were displaced for the Ukkadam flyover project in 2018 but have not been provided alternative housing.

10. Variety Hall Road area redevelopment: The slow progress of housing construction for residents displaced from the Variety Hall area in 2019 was brought to attention.

11. Land pattas: The long-standing demand for house site pattas for residents in areas like Sungam Gandhi Nagar, Highway Colony, Ammankulam, and Masakkalipalayam was reiterated.

12. Swachh Bharat ranking: Concerns were raised about Coimbatore's drop from 42nd to 182nd place in the national cleanliness rankings. The MLA called for the regularization of contractual sanitation workers to improve the city's cleanliness.

13. Noyyal River pollution: The issue of untreated sewage and industrial waste being discharged into the Noyyal River at Perur was brought up, with a request to protect and rejuvenate the water bodies in the area.

The MLA urged the Chief Minister to give due consideration to these demands and take swift action to fulfill the needs of Coimbatore's residents.

State-level BJP functionaries Professor Kanagasabapathi and Sumathi Venkatesh accompanied the MLA during the meeting.
