Call for New Panchayat Unions in Tamil Nadu at Pollachi Meeting

The Tamil Nadu Rural Development and Panchayat Union Workers' Association's Coimbatore district general body meeting in Pollachi emphasized the need to split large panchayat unions to create new ones across the state.

Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Rural Development and Panchayat Union Workers' Association held its Coimbatore district general body meeting and triple celebration in Pollachi. The event, presided over by the association's state president Balasubramaniam, saw participation from numerous officials of the Panchayat Union Workers' Association from across Coimbatore district.

During the meeting, a felicitation ceremony was conducted to honor those who retired from service and those who received recent promotions. Following this, several resolutions were passed.

Key demands raised at the meeting included the creation of new Block Development Officer positions and infrastructure for special schemes such as the Kalaignar Kanavu Illam scheme, the central government's Jal Jeevan Mission, and the Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

A significant emphasis was placed on the need to split large panchayat unions to form new ones across Tamil Nadu. This demand stems from the recent creation of new municipal corporations in the state, which has led to the integration of additional panchayat unions. This restructuring has been affecting the career progression and positions of officials working in panchayat unions.

The association stressed that creating new, smaller panchayat unions by dividing the larger ones would address these concerns and potentially improve local governance structures in rural areas of Tamil Nadu.
