Coimbatore: Doctors at the Coimbatore Government Hospital have joined a nationwide strike to protest the brutal murder of a female postgraduate trainee doctor in Kolkata.



The 24-hour strike, called by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), has affected outpatient services in the city, leaving many patients waiting for treatment.

The strike comes in response to the horrific incident that occurred on May 8th at the R.G. Kar Government Medical College Hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal. A female postgraduate trainee doctor was sexually assaulted and brutally murdered while on duty. The police have arrested a suspect named Sanjay Roy, but there are suspicions that more individuals might be involved in the crime.

As the case has been transferred to the CBI for investigation, protests have erupted across the country, condemning the heinous act and demanding justice for the slain doctor. The IMA's call for a strike aims to seek justice for the murdered doctor and to urge authorities to ensure a safe working environment for medical professionals.



In Coimbatore, the impact of the strike is evident at the Government Hospital, where outpatient services have been significantly affected. On a typical day, the hospital receives around 6,000 outpatients. However, due to the strike, many of these patients are left waiting as doctors have boycotted their duties in the outpatient department.



It's worth noting that while outpatient services are affected, doctors at the Coimbatore Government Hospital continue to provide regular care for inpatients and those requiring emergency treatment. The strike primarily impacts the outpatient department, where patients usually come for routine check-ups and non-emergency consultations.

The medical community's united stand through this strike highlights the urgent need for improved safety measures and stricter laws to protect healthcare workers. As the nation awaits justice for the murdered doctor, the incident has sparked a broader conversation about the security and working conditions of medical professionals across the country.
