TNAU Celebrates 78th Independence Day with Grandeur and Vision for Future

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in Coimbatore marked the 78th Independence Day with flag hoisting and an inspiring address by Vice-Chancellor Dr. V. Geethalakshmi, highlighting TNAU's achievements and future goals.


Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) in Coimbatore celebrated the 78th Independence Day with patriotic fervor and a vision for the future on August 15, 2024. The event was marked by a grand ceremony that showcased the university's commitment to national progress and agricultural advancement.





Honorary Colonel Dr. V. Geethalakshmi, Vice-Chancellor of TNAU, led the celebrations by hoisting the national flag. In her Independence Day address, she paid homage to the freedom fighters who sacrificed for the nation's liberty. Dr. Geethalakshmi emphasized this year's slogan, "Viksit Bharat," which aligns with the government's vision of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047 through strategic investments in healthcare, education, economic diversification, and effective governance.



The Vice-Chancellor highlighted TNAU's significant contributions to India's food and nutritional security over the past five decades. She proudly announced that the university has released 929 crop varieties, 1500 technologies, and 150 pieces of machinery during this period. In 2024 alone, TNAU's achievements included the release of 24 new crop varieties, 7 farm technologies, and 5 farm machineries and tools, demonstrating the institution's ongoing commitment to agricultural innovation.

Dr. Geethalakshmi called upon the students and staff to take a pledge to elevate TNAU to the status of the number one State Agricultural University in India. She also urged them to work towards making India a developed nation by 2047, emphasizing the importance of taking pride in the country's heritage, fulfilling one's duties, and fostering national unity.



The Independence Day celebration saw the participation of various university dignitaries, including University Officers, Heads of Departments, and Scientists. School students and teachers, along with TNAU staff members, also joined in the patriotic event, creating a diverse and inclusive atmosphere.

Dr. N. Maragatham, Dean of the Centre for Students Welfare, was responsible for organizing the arrangements for this memorable celebration, ensuring its success and smooth execution.
