Udumalpet Student Wins Gold for Second Time in National Shooting Competition

Preethi, a student from Udumalpet, clinched gold for the second time in the national shooting competition held in Trichy, bringing pride to Tamil Nadu with her remarkable achievement.

Tirupur: Preethi, a student from Sri GVGVV Women's College in Udumalpet, Tirupur district, has once again brought glory to Tamil Nadu by winning a gold medal in the national shooting competition. This marks her second gold medal at the national level, showcasing her exceptional skill and dedication to the sport.

Preethi began her shooting training in March 2023. Her journey started with winning a bronze medal in the state-level National Cadet Corps (NCC) shooting competition. Encouraged by this success, she continued her training through the 5TN Girls Battalion NCC office.

In July 2023, Preethi participated in her first national-level shooting competition held in Thiruvananthapuram, where she won a gold medal. Following this, she competed in another national-level event in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh, securing a silver medal. Her relentless pursuit of excellence led her to participate in the recent national-level shooting competition at NIT Trichy, where she clinched another gold medal.

The competition at NIT Trichy saw participation from 296 students across the country. Preethi's outstanding performance not only earned her the gold medal but also brought immense pride to Tamil Nadu. In recognition of her achievement, the Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare and the head of Tamil Nadu NCC invited Preethi to Chennai to felicitate her.

To honor Preethi's accomplishments, a special felicitation ceremony was organized at her college. Colonel J.M. Joshi, Commanding Officer of 5TN Girls Battalion, attended the event and praised both Preethi and Captain Dr. Karpagavalli, the NCC officer. The college's Managing Director Dr. Manjula and Principal Dr. Parameswari also participated in the event, extending their congratulations to the young achiever.

The felicitation program was organized by Captain Dr. Karpagavalli, who serves as both an Associate Professor in the History Department and the NCC officer at the college. This event not only celebrated Preethi's success but also highlighted the importance of nurturing young talent in sports at the educational institution level.
