Actor Ranjith and the Kavundampalayam movie crew addressed the media in Coimbatore's Ram Nagar area, discussing the film's release challenges and clarifying misconceptions about its content.
Coimbatore: Actor Ranjith and the crew of the movie 'Kavundampalayam' met with journalists in the Ram Nagar area of Coimbatore to address recent controversies surrounding the film's release.
Ranjith expressed his gratitude to the audience for their support, stating, "The film 'Kavundampalayam' has been released across Tamil Nadu after a long-standing issue. I'm not shocked by the limited number of screens we received; it was expected. I don't wish to blame anyone, but I feel our wings are being clipped. It's disappointing to see fewer screens even in my home district of Coimbatore."
He emphasized the film's message, saying, "I'm trying to convey a message for parents and families through this movie. I humbly request you to avoid unnecessary animosity towards me. Violence is not the solution to violence. I'm being misrepresented on social media. I am against honor killings."
Ranjith praised the performances of the lead actors and the villain in the film, urging the public to watch it in theaters. He expressed disappointment over the limited screen availability despite having a censor certificate but remained optimistic about the film's success.
"We haven't failed. People who have watched the film are appreciating it, and that's our victory," Ranjith said. He added that the movie would soon be available on OTT platforms and joked that if there were controversies even there, they would distribute cassettes door-to-door.
Ranjith firmly stated, "I am not, not, not a supporter of honor killings!" He refrained from commenting on whether cinema contributes to increased violence and mentioned ongoing talks for his next project, saying he feels rejuvenated as "Ranjith 3.0".
Actress Aalpia, who acted in 'Kavundampalayam', said, "They stirred up controversy without watching the film. If they had seen it, this controversy wouldn't have arisen."
Another actor from the film, Anish, clarified, "This film is not about caste at all. It has been made as a good film and is not against society."
