New Ration Cards Distribution to Begin This Month: Additional Secretary of Cooperatives

Dr. Radhakrishnan, Additional Secretary of Cooperatives, announced in Coimbatore that the distribution of new ration cards will commence this month. He also shared updates on loan disbursements and essential commodity stocks.


Coimbatore: Dr. Radhakrishnan, the Additional Secretary of the Cooperatives Department of Tamil Nadu, conducted an inspection of the Cooperative Department and Consumer Warehouse in North Coimbatore this morning. During his visit, he gathered feedback from employees and the public.

Speaking to reporters afterwards, Dr. Radhakrishnan stated, "The Cooperatives Department of the Tamil Nadu government is crucial for the country's progress. The government is providing various loans to the people through the Cooperatives Department. This year, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has ordered the distribution of 1 lakh loans through the Cooperatives Department."



He elaborated on the types of loans being disbursed, including agricultural loans, crop loans, self-help group loans, small business loans, and education loans. So far, 24,000 crore rupees have been distributed through these schemes.

Dr. Radhakrishnan also highlighted the efficient distribution of goods through ration shops under the Cooperatives Department. He assured that there are sufficient stocks of rice, sugar, and pulses. During the election period, letters were sent requesting the purchase of palm oil and pulses, and now all areas have the desired quantities.



Regarding new ration cards, Dr. Radhakrishnan revealed that 3.1 lakh people across Tamil Nadu have applied for new ration cards. Out of these, 2.8 lakh applications have been verified. In Coimbatore alone, 15,000 new ration card applications have been received. The distribution of new ration cards is set to begin this month.

The Additional Secretary also shared that Tamil Nadu's cooperative godowns currently hold a stock of 33.6 lakh paddy. He mentioned that discussions are underway to provide 50 grams of fenugreek through markets operated by the Cooperatives Department.
