SP Velumani Urges Government Action for Tirupur's Textile Industry and Coimbatore's Development

SP Velumani, MLA from Coimbatore Thondamuthur, calls for interest-free loans to Tirupur's textile industry and addresses various issues in Coimbatore during an AIADMK meeting on August 7, 2023.

Coimbatore: SP Velumani, MLA from Coimbatore Thondamuthur, has urged both the central and state governments to intervene immediately and provide interest-free loans to meet the demands of textile and garment manufacturing companies in Tirupur.

This statement was made during a press meeting following an AIADMK functionaries' meeting at the party's headquarters in Coimbatore.

The AIADMK meeting, which included the distribution of party membership cards, was attended by SP Velumani and other MLAs. During the press conference, Velumani highlighted several issues concerning Coimbatore and Tiruppur districts.

Velumani emphasized that it was during the AIADMK rule that various welfare schemes were introduced for weavers. He also extended his greetings on the occasion of National Handloom Day. The MLA mentioned that the meeting discussed strategies to improve performance in polling booths where the party received fewer votes in the recent parliamentary elections.

Praising former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, Velumani stated that his administration brought numerous development projects to Coimbatore. He expressed confidence that people would vote for AIADMK in the upcoming assembly elections due to these initiatives.

Velumani also informed that as per Edappadi Palaniswami's order, a relief fund of one crore rupees was handed over to Kerala for those affected by the Wayanad landslide. Additionally, relief materials worth nearly one crore rupees are being continuously sent to Wayanad.

The MLA criticized the current state of roads in the district, claiming they were in an unfit condition for use. He alleged that 500 road projects, which were allocated funds and tendered during the AIADMK rule, have been cancelled. Velumani urged the government to repair the roads promptly.

Other issues raised by Velumani included the doubling of house construction permit fees, which he said severely affected Coimbatore residents. He demanded the withdrawal of this increase. The MLA also called for the rollback of property tax hikes and price increases on essential commodities, stating that these measures have caused distress to the public.

Regarding Tiruppur's textile industry, Velumani mentioned that many companies have relocated to Bangladesh, which is now facing significant issues. He urged both the central and state governments to intervene by providing interest-free loans to meet the demands of textile and garment manufacturing companies in Tiruppur.

Lastly, Velumani called for the immediate implementation of the Athikadavu-Avinashi scheme.
