Two Killed in Landslide Near Sholayar Dam in Valparai, Minister Muthusamy Provides Financial Aid

A tragic landslide near Sholayar Dam in Valparai claimed two lives. Minister Muthusamy visited the hospital, offered condolences, and provided financial assistance to the bereaved families.


Coimbatore: In a tragic incident, two women lost their lives when a landslide occurred near the left bank of Sholayar Dam in Valparai, Coimbatore district. The victims, identified as Rajeswari and Thanapriya, were asleep in their house when the disaster struck.

The bodies of the deceased have been sent to the Valparai Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. Upon learning of the incident, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister expressed his condolences and announced financial assistance of Rs. 3 lakh each to the families of the victims.

Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Muthusamy, visited the hospital to pay his respects.





He garlanded the bodies of the deceased and offered condolences to the grieving families. The minister handed over cheques of Rs. 3 lakh each to the families, as per the Chief Minister's announcement, and provided additional material assistance.



Speaking to reporters, Muthusamy said, "This incident has caused great sorrow. The landslide occurred due to heavy rain in the Valparai region, causing the soil to collapse onto the residence." He added that apart from the Chief Minister's relief fund, an additional accident relief of Rs. 4 lakh would be provided to each family. The minister also mentioned that Rs. 50,000 has been given on behalf of the party.

Muthusamy further stated that the District Collector has been instructed to survey the residential areas near Sholayar Dam to assess their safety for habitation. Necessary actions will be taken based on the findings of this survey to ensure the safety of the residents in the area.
