Palladam Depot Operates 90% of Buses Amidst Transport Workers' Strike

Amidst the strike by transport workers demanding long-pending pension funds and DA payments, Palladam depot manages to operate 90% of its buses, with only 17 halted.

Coimbatore:

From the Palladam depot, 90% of the buses are still in operation despite the strike announced by various unions representing the transport workers of Tamil Nadu's state transport corporation. The workers have been demanding immediate disbursement of pension funds and 96 months' worth of dearness allowance (DA) pending for retirees.

Approximately 520 workers, including drivers, conductors, and technical staff at the Palladam depot, have joined the strike. Out of 78 buses, 57 are being operated by members of the Progressive Union, while 17 are suspended. The depot manager asserts that normal operations are continuing for the majority of buses.

Students and textile workers traveling from Palladam to Tirupur, Coimbatore, Udumalaipettai, Dharapuram, and Pollachi are reportedly not facing difficulties.

With the Pongal festival approaching, the striking transport workers urge the Tamil Nadu government to swiftly address their demands, considering the public's welfare.
