Farmers Protest to Shut Down Coconut Shell Burning Plant in Kullampalayam

Farmers in Kullampalayam, near Palladam, protest to close a coconut shell burning plant, citing health issues and legal violations.

Tirupur: Farmers near Palladam, in Kullampalayam, have staged a protest demanding the closure of a coconut shell burning plant, alleging it operates illegally and causes respiratory problems and disease.

Despite submitting petitions to the Block Development Officer (BDO), District Collector, and Pollution Control Board, the plant was briefly closed but resumed operations. The BDO has personally inspected the plant and warned of sealing it if renovation works continue.

A peaceful negotiation between the farmers and the plant owner is planned for January 5th. However, farmers have announced a road blockade protest on January 10th if the plant is not permanently closed.
