Devotees offer prayers dressed up as deities at Sri Puthu Mariamman Temple near Udumalpet

In the main event of the festival, men and women dressed in the guise of deities and children dressed up as Murugan and Vinayaka danced to the devotional songs and took out a procession on the main streets of the town to offer special prayers.


Tirupur: During the festival held at Sri Puthu Mariamman Temple at Kattoor near Udumalpet, men dressed up as deities and children dressed as Lord Muruga Vinayaka took out processions on the streets before offering worship.

“Arulmigu” Sri Puthu Mariamman Temple festival at Kizhavan Kattoor village near Udumalpet is being celebrated with religious fervour from March 4th of this month with various religious ceremonies.



In the main event, men and women dressed in the guise of deities and children dressed up as Murugan and Vinayaka danced to the devotional songs and took out a procession on the main streets of the town to offer special prayers.



This was witnessed by a large number of devotees from the surrounding villages.

The devotee said "Every year during the temple festival, as per the advice of the ancestors, the devotees dress up as gods and perform special Poojas, so that the people of the village can live a long life without any disease.
