Lone Tusker breaks windshield of KSRTC bus near Udumalpet, creates anxious moments for bus passengers

According to the forest department officials, there has been an increase in the movement of wild animals on the Udumalpet- Munnar road in recent months.

Tirupur: A lone wild elephant nick-named “Padayappa” created anxious moments for the bus travellers when it blocked the road and damaged the windshield of a KSRTC bus on Marayoor road near Udumalpet.

The KSRTC bus was proceeding from Udumalpet to Munnar when it came under an elephant attack.

The windscreen of the bus was broken and the elephant also tried to roll the bus to the side.

The passengers inside the bus were immensely alarmed by the behaviour of the rampaging elephant.

To their huge relief, the jumbo crossed the road and left the spot after an hour later.

A few days back, the same elephant had tried to attack a passing Kerala government bus at night on the same route.

According to sources, the elephant has been roaming in residential areas and entering the roadsides in the past two days.

According to the forest department officials, there has been an increase in the movement of wild animals on the Udumalpet- Munnar road in recent months.

“We are constantly monitoring the situation. It is advisable not to park vehicles in the forest area to move cautiously” said a Forest official.

“Usually, vehicles are parked at checkpoints if elephants are standing on the roads. If wildlife is seen on the roads, one should not go nearby and should not sound the horn” the officials said.
