A path-breaking charitable initiative pioneered by the Paediatric department of CMCH to help poor patients on the anvil

“As a first step, a list of donors, who could extend financial support for medical emergencies of poor patients have been enlisted” HOD Dr. Aruchamy Laksmanaswamy.

Coimbatore: The Paediatric department of Coimbatore Government Medical College and Hospital has charted out a detailed action plan to assist famished families arriving for treatment, who are in dire financial need to meet out the costs..

Dr Aruchamy Laksmanaswamy, who took charge as the Head-Department of Paediatrics, while speaking to ‘Simplicity’ said that agenda is aimed at reducing the risk or emergency rate among paediatric illnesses.

“As a first step, a list of donors, who could extend financial support for medical emergencies of poor patients have been enlisted” HOD Dr. Aruchamy Laksmanaswamy.

"When there's a shortage of prescribed medication within the campus, we approach other facilities or networks, which makes it expensive for the patient's family. Quite often the doctors themselves invest from their pockets to save lives. To avoid such critical scenarios, I invite and encourage people from across the city to contribute some money as this city is known for its hospitality." the HOD appealed to the charitable persons in the city.

“Following this, a plan to create a group of blood donors is underway. They will be connected over social networking, and when there is an emergency immediate details will be posted in the group which enables people to do the needful as early as possible. Though there are blood banks to access and provide, during high emergency cases reliance is typically uncertain. This is a step to avoid such situations and risk elements." the Paediatrician added

Dr Aruchamy further told this news portal that “most of the visiting families are below the poverty line families. In certain cases, it is witnessed that they cannot afford a single meal for the child who's under treatment. To tackle such cases, it has been planned to fix a grievance box to post anything related to their needs as most of them hesitate to approach in person and suffer from hunger”.

“The donated amount for the department will be documented, and used for medicines as a priority, followed by providing food to those who cannot afford it. The implementation of these action plans is underway and soon will be implemented” HOD Dr Aruchamy Laksmanaswamy said.
