Opposition to shift Udumalai Electricity Distribution Circle Superintending Engineer's Office

The farmers and public are protesting against shifting of the office of the Superintending Engineer of Udumalai Electricity Distribution Circle to Pollachi.

Tirupur: The industries in Udumalpet are in for a rude shock as the power distribution circle, which has been functioning for 48 years, is planning to shift the office of the superintending engineer to Pollachi.

The office of the Superintending Engineer was instrumental in the development of the industry, agriculture and urban development, such as yarn and paper mills in Udumalpet.

After a massive struggle by two ministers in the DMK, Sadiq Badshah and Kannappan, a power distribution circle was formed in Udumalpet and has been functioning since then.

A large number of units are functioning such as providing electricity connection, developing new projects, making of electric poles, maintenance of electrical meters, maintenance of transformers, repairs etc.

Though there are 49 divisional offices in Udumalai Electricity Distribution Circle, Udumalai, Madathukulam, Peddappampatti and Devanurpudur are the areas under Udumalai revenue division which have the highest number of electricity connections.

At present, the divisional offices in Pollachi division will be divided and an additional office of the Executive Engineer will be created. With additional section offices planned to be created, it would be appropriate to have an office of the Electrical Superintending Engineer at Udumalpet.

But why shift an office that currently operates in its own building to a rented building, without any reason whatsoever? If the office of the Superintending Engineer is shifted from Udumalpet, the development of the power sector will be affected and all the works like supply of electricity connections and complaints against the officials will have to go to Pollachi.

Therefore, the Udumalai power distribution circle should be avoided from being shifted to Pollachi, otherwise the farmers and the general public will come together and protest, said the public and farmers.
