Two-day national seminar on Tribal Development begins in Ooty

The Tamil Nadu Minister for Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare, Kayalvizhi Selvaraj inaugurated the two-day national seminar on Tribal Development at the Tribal Research Centre at Palada, Ooty.


Nilgiris: Minister Kayalvizhi Selvaraj inaugurated a photo museum of six types of tribals at the Tribal Research Center in Mudra Palada area near Ooty.



Subsequently, the Minister inaugurated a 2-day national seminar for tribals at the Tribal Cultural Center in Ooty and provided welfare program assistance.



At the program, Minister Kayalvizhi Selvaraj said, “There are 36 types of tribals living in 23 districts of Tamil Nadu. 1,81,000 tribal students are studying in Government Schools, Government-aided schools and private schools in Tamil Nadu. After the DMK Government took charge, there are 320 Government tribal boarding schools and 8 Ekalaiva schools in Tamil Nadu with 4000 students joining this year alone.”



“Rs. 45 crores have been allocated for various development works including construction of additional classrooms of tribal schools in Tamil Nadu and Rs. 40,98,00,000 have been given as incentives for 16,570 tribal students.



21,381 tribal students who have completed higher education have been given financial assistance of Rs. 44,44, 000 lakhs. Thus far, 9,835 tribals have been granted forest rights recognition in Tamil Nadu, and 548 people have been granted social rights. Rs. 121,00,00,000 has been allocated to improve the basic facilities of the tribal people in Tamil Nadu, while Rs. 50 crores has been allocated by the Government to build 1000 new houses,” added the Minister.



Nilgiris District Collector, S P Amrith, Adi Dravidar Welfare Department Additional Chief Secretary Thenkasi Javakar, Director Anand and many others participated in the event.
