Coimbatore's TNAU researches on impact of climate change on crops in collaboration with Germany

TNAU's Vice-Chancellor, Geethalakshmi said that the research is being carried out with the help of German technology on how to insure the crop according to the climate, and how to reduce water and get higher yields.



Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) in Coimbatore, in collaboration with Germany is conducting research work on crop damage and compensation due to climate change.



Addressing a press conference, the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor, Geethalakshmi said, "Research on climate change, through satellite technology to address crop damages during disasters is being done. Steps are being taken to provide adequate relief to the farmers by collecting information, using technologies.

The aim is to conduct research on the impact of climate change on crops. Crop protection schemes will also be implemented for individual farming. Steps are being taken to provide information on soil, water and crop status through mobile phones. We are going to work with German technology on how to insure crops according to the climate."

TNAU's Vice-Chancellor also added, "We are going to implement projects such as how to deal with various such issues and to suggest the modalities for the same. Plans are to be formulated to reduce the water and get higher yields. It is also planned to produce and supply equipment to small and marginal farmers at low cost and we propose to keep in touch with 1000 farmers and understand their needs."
