Farmers sell tomatoes in front of Coimbatore Collectorate to protest against low prices

The Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association arrived at the Coimbatore District Collectorate to submit a petition demanding that steps be taken to procure the right price for tomatoes.

Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association arrived at the Coimbatore District Collectorate to submit a petition alleging that they were not getting the right price for tomatoes.

The farmers sold the tomatoes for Rs. 5 per kg and stated that the proceeds will be sent to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to provide relief to the affected farmers.

S Palanisamy, Coimbatore District President of the Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association said, "Farmers who have been cultivating tomatoes for the past one month have been facing a crisis.

There has been an explosion of rot in the tomatoes due to continuous rain and snow. Due to this, traders buy tomatoes from farmers for Rs. 6 per kg and sell it to the public for Rs. 25. This has to be regulated by the Government."

Following this, the farmers submitted a petition to the Coimbatore District Collector demanding that steps be taken to provide remunerative price for tomatoes.
