Civil Supplies CID officials seize 2 tonnes of ration rice near Coimbatore; Auto driver arrested

. Based on a tip-off that ration rice was being stored near Podanur in Coimbatore, a team led by the Flying Squad Special Tahsildar Muthukumar and Civil Supplies CID Inspector Vivekanandan patrolled the Gurusamy Pillai Road, in Podanur and found two tonnes of ration rice being smuggled in an auto rickshaw.


Coimbatore: Instances of people smuggling and selling ration rice by buying at affordable prices in Coimbatore and then transporting the rice to Kerala has been on the rise. The Civil Supplies Crime Investigation Department Police have formed a special squad to check hoarding and smuggling of ration rice.

When the Civil Supplies Crime Investigation Department Police officials received a tip-off that ration rice was being stored near Podanur in Coimbatore, a team led by the Flying Squad Special Tahsildar Muthukumar and Civil Supplies CID Inspector Vivekanandan patrolled the Gurusamy Pillai Road, in Podanur.

On checking a Tata Ace auto that was parked in the area, the officials found that it contained 2 tonnes of ration rice. Following this, the police seized the auto rickshaw and arrested Sivadas, the auto driver, and are investigating.
