While a mother and daughter committed suicide in Sulur due to frustration over not being able to pay back the money to those who invested in their Diwali chit. The father is being treated in a critical condition.

Coimbatore: Gandharuban was living with his family on Ammal Koil Pillaiyar Street near Sulur. A native of Ramanathapuram, he is said to have been running a Deepavali chit in the area where he had earlier lived.

In this case, it is said that Gandharuban's wife Palaniammal had given the money received from the chit for Deepavali on interest to someone else. Since the money she gave out on to earn more interest didn’t return on time and she didn’t pay those invested in her chit during Diwali, all those who had cast their chit have asked for the money back.

It is said that the three were in mental agony due to this. Frustrated, Gandharuban along with his family tried to commit suicide as the money lenders were asking for a refund.

While his wife and daughter died tragically, Gandharuban is being treated in a life-threatening condition.

Police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies of the two and sent them to a hospital for post-mortem. The incident has caused a lot of grief in the area.
