Continuous rain in Siruvani dam and catchment areas - Water level rises to 39.36 feet

As of this morning, Siruvani area recorded 23 mm of rainfall. With this, the water level in the dam has now risen to 39.36 feet. If this situation continues, the water level will rise and reach its full capacity.

Coimbatore: Siruvani Dam, the main source of water in Coimbatore district, is located in the Western Ghats in Palakkad, Kerala.

Situated at an altitude of 863.40 metres above sea level, the dam has a capacity of 49.53 feet. However, considering the safety of the dam, on behalf of the Government of Kerala, the water level in the Siruvani dam is only up to 45 feet.

This is the sixth time this year that the Siruvani dam will reach its full permissible capacity of 45 feet.

Current Status

Due to heavy rains at the base of the Siruvani dam catchment areas, the water level in the dam is slowly rising. As of this morning, the foothills of Siruvani recorded 23 mm of rainfall while the catchment areas of the dam recorded 23 mm rainfall. As a result, the water level in the dam is currently at 39.36 feet.

Officials of the Water Supply and Drainage Board said that the Siruvani dam and the catchment areas have been receiving good rainfall continuously for the past few days. If the situation persists, the water level is likely to rise further and the demarcated dam is likely to reach its full capacity of 45 feet.

Thus, if the Siruvani dam is filled again, it will be counted as full for the sixth time this year. As a result, drinking water can be supplied without scarcity during the summer season, they said.

Siruvani dam is the source of drinking water for 22 wards in Coimbatore Corporation areas, seven town panchayats and 10 village panchayats. Siruvani water is the second most delicious drinking water in the world. It would not be an exaggeration to say that there is a separate mouse for this water.
