Goondas Act slapped on POCSO case offender and ganja peddler

On the recommendation of the District Superintendent of Police, V Badrinarayanan, District Collector, G S Sameeran ordered for the Goondas Act to be invoked against an offender under the POCSO Act, Parameswaran and another Sivaraman who has been a serial offender of ganja sale.


Coimbatore: Parameswaran (41), a native of Nilgiris district who was arrested in a POCSO case for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl in Mettupalayam police station limits in Coimbatore district, and Sivaraman (22), a native of Kerala, who was involved in the continuous sale of ganja in Perianaickenpalayam police station limits in Coimbatore, have been booked under the Goondas Act.

Based on the recommendation of the Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police, V Badrinarayanan, the Coimbatore District Collector G S Sameeran ordered action against both offenders under the Goondas Act. According to the order, Parameswaran, an accused under the POCSO Act, and Sivaraman, an accused in a serial ganja case were both jailed under the Goondas Act.

The Goondas Act is one of the foremost of the legal measures taken to ensure that those involved in a series of crimes or major crimes are not released from jail even on bail. Thus far, action has been taken against 30 persons under the Goondas Act and two under the National Security Act (NSA) for disrupting public peace in Coimbatore district, according to the District Superintendent of Police, V Badrinarayanan.

It is to be noted that the District Superintendent of Police had already warned that action under the Goondas Act will continue against those indulging in activities disrupting public peace.
