8 people from Tirupur seriously injured as van overturns on Coonoor-Mettupalayam Ghat section

The driver suddenly lost control of the van and rammed into a tree and then overturned. It is reported that due to the impact of the collision, the tree also tilted and fell on nearby electric wires and a car.

The Nilgiris: Sundar Raj, a resident of Tirupur along with nine others from his family had travelled in a van on Monday to attend the baby shower ceremony at the house of Sakthivel who hailed from Gandhipuram, but lived near Coonoor in Nilgiris district.

The van was driven by Muruganantham, a native of Muruganpalayam in Tirupur. Near Kurumbadi on the Ghat section, the driver suddenly lost control of the van, and rammed into a tree and overturned.

Motorists immediately informed the police and ambulance service. Five ambulances rushed to the spot and medical staff rescued the occupants of the vehicle and rushed them to the Mettupalayam Government hospital. Due to this, the traffic on the Ghat section was disrupted for two hours with vehicles lined up for a distance of about 3 km due to an influx of tourists owing to the ongoing second season in Nilgiris District.
