Novel mobile library scheme introduced in autos; Scheme to be implemented in 2000 autos in Coimbatore

Inaugurating the mobile library project, the City Police Commissioner, V Balakrishnan said that the novel mobile library scheme is being implemented in the city, in over 2000 autos at a cost of Rs.20,000 under the initiative of Dr. Kalam Foundation, an NGO.

Coimbatore: In a bid to promote reading skills among people, the city police is in the process of setting up a mobile library in more than 2,000 auto rickshaws in the city.

As a part of this initiative, a mobile auto library scheme has been implemented at a cost of Rs.20,000 under the initiative of Dr. Kalam Foundation, an NGO.

Inaugurating the mobile library which has a wide variety of books such as Tamil novels, prose books, weekly and monthly Tamil and English magazines, the Coimbatore City Police Commissioner, V Balakrishnan travelled in an auto rickshaw on Friday to encourage people to read books.

With the help of the Kalam Foundation, the scheme which was launched for the first time in an auto rickshaw belonging to Syed, a native of Thudiyalur in Coimbatore, aims to reduce the use of cell phones during travel and promote reading skills among people.

Speaking about the mobile auto library project, the City Police Commissioner, V Balakrishnan said that there are more than 2,000 autos plying in Coimbatore city. "We are planning to set up this mobile library so that these auto drivers can read books in their spare time and passengers can read them during their journey.

The autos will now have daily newspapers, books, chocolates, masks and dustbins. The contribution of books to the good systemic transformation of man is immense. Usually the library and homes have a book, but this mobile auto library has been set up so that you can read it whenever you get the opportunity.

Already, on behalf of the Coimbatore City Police, we have put up one library per street to develop the imagination of children. A few days ago, a large number of people bought books at the book fair held in Codissia. The book is a weapon for sharpening knowledge and books are essential for maintaining law and order, as well as for people to live a peaceful life. So, in the coming days, we are planning to set up a library in more than 2000 autos in Coimbatore city.

We are in talks to set up a library in call taxis too, after the scheme for autos is implemented, but as soon as possible. Most of the time, we are going to put motivational books through this scheme to instill confidence in people."
