DMK MP A Raja's visit to Nilgiris postponed; rescheduled date will be announced later

DMK MP A Raja was scheduled to arrive in the Nilgiris on a two-day visit to attend the DMK's Mupperum Vizha. According to reports, the trip has been cancelled to avoid any untoward incident as hindu organisations were protesting.

The Nilgiris: DMK MP A Raja's two-day visit to the Nilgiris to participate in the Mupperum Vvizha has been abruptly postponed.

DMK's Mupperum Vizha is being celebrated in various districts across Tamil Nadu by the party. As part of this, party programmes and public meetings were held in the Nilgiris district for the past few.

Following this, it was announced that the DMK's party flag hoisting ceremony would be held at Coonoor and Ooty in the Nilgiris district and that DMK deputy general secretary and Nilgiris MP A Raja will be attending the programmes.

Following this, the party office-bearers were quick to make arrangements in their areas. Raja was to come to the Nilgiris on a two-day visit. It was planned that he would take a flight from Chennai to Coimbatore last evening and from there by car to the Nilgiris via Annur and Mettupalayam.

The party had also made arrangements to welcome him to his arrival in the Nilgiris. It has been announced that Raja has abruptly postponed his two-day visit to the Nilgiris. All the events he was supposed to attend have been postponed to another date. However, the dates of those programmes will be announced later, according to the Nilgiris district DMK.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Hindu outfits have been protesting against DMK deputy general secretary A Raja's controversial remarks against Hindus.

Yesterday also, he was on his way to the Nilgiris via Coimbatore when Hindu organisations had planned to stage a protest. It is said that A Raja's programmes have been postponed on request by authorities to avoid any untoward incidents after the recent spate of violence in Coimbatore.
