NIA officials raid house of member of the Executive Committee of Popular Front of India in Coimbatore; Interrogation on

The National Intelligence Agency officers, who raided more than 16 places in Tamil Nadu, interrogated Ismail from Coimbatore and also arrested SDPI and Popular Front of India activists who protested.



Coimbatore: The National Intelligence Agency (NIA) interrogated a Coimbatore Popular Friend of India national executive committee member, Ismail and took him away for questioning after raiding his house in Karumbukadai area, in Coimbatore.



NIA officials have been raiding the homes of Popular Front of India executives in over 10 states across India, since early Thursday morning. In Tamil Nadu, more than 16 places were raided in districts including Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore and Nellai. NIA officers accompanied by more than 500 policemen including CRPF and local police raided the house of Popular Front of India national executive committee member Ismail in Karambukkadai area of Coimbatore, after which he was taken to Delhi for questioning.



Meanwhile, the police arrested the SDPI and Popular Front of India activists who were protesting against Ismail being interrogated and taken away for further questioning. Similarly, two people from Kerala were interrogated for two hours by NIA officials at the Hamilton Club near Coimbatore railway station.



Following this, the two men were also taken to another place for interrogation. A tense atmosphere prevailied in the city since CRPF personnel were gathered at the places where the NIA officials were investigating.
