Coimbatore District Committee TN Farmers' Association demands restoration of Panchayat stream in Peedampalli area near Sulur

On behalf of the Coimbatore District Committee of the Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association, a petition has been submitted to the District Collector demanding the restoration of the Panchayat stream which has been a source of water for more than 100 years in Peedampalli area near Sulur.

Coimbatore: A petition has been submitted to the Coimbatore District Collector, G S Sameeran on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association (Coimbatore District Committee) seeking restoration of the encroachment of a stream belonging to the Panchayat in the Peedampalli area near Sulur.

The petition was filed under the leadership of K Palaniswami, President of the Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association (Coimbatore District Committee) and stated that the 15-feet-deep Panchayat stream in Peedampalli village of Sulur taluk of Coimbatore district has been a source of water for more than 100 years.

"In this case, an individual has encroached upon the stream area using mud to divide his own land into plots. Due to this, rainwater entered the nearby agricultural lands during the rainy season causing soil erosion. Moreover, agricultural land has turned into potholes causing damage to the extent that agriculture cannot be done. Hence, private encroachments should be stopped and the encroached areas should be restored and rainwater should be allowed to flow without any hindrance," read the petition.
