DVAC raids conducted across Tamil Nadu in connection with LED scam: Rs.32.98 lakh, 316 documents and two bank locker keys seized

Rs.32.98 lakh in cash, 1228 grams of gold jewellery, 948 grams of Silver objects and 10 four-wheelers were found during the raid. A total of 316 documents and two bank lockers have been seized in connection with the case, said DVAC.


Coimbatore: The DVAC today conducted searches at places of former minister SP Velumani and offices of owners of a private company in connection with the LED lighting scam.

The DVAC has released a press release in this regard as the raids across Tamil Nadu have been completed.

In it, it is said: S.P. Velumani, the current Thondamuthur MLA was the former Municipal and Rural Development Minister, during his tenure as a minister from 2015 to 2018. In the Rural Development Department, a project to replace the existing street lights in the rural areas with LED lights. He has committed massive irregularities in contracts for the work carried out in the project to convert it into LED lights.

Based on a detailed investigation carried out In order to provide contract work to the companies of those close to him in contravention of government rules a loss of about Rs.500 crore was caused to the Government. According to the 2018 act, a case was registered against former local bodies minister SP Velumani and 9 individuals/companies and others under the Prevention and Vigilance Department Headquarters Crime No.05/2022 Section 120(B) r/w 420, 409 IPC and u/s 13(2) r/w 13(1) & 13(2) r/w 13(1) (1) (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and r/w 13(2) r/w 13(1) (1) (a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and r/w 13(2).

9 places in Chennai were raided to seize documents related to the above case. Searches were conducted at 14 locations in Coimbatore, 2 places in Trichy, 3 locations each in Tiruvallur and Chengalpattu, and a total of 31 locations today on 13.09.2022.

During the searches, Rs.32.98 lakh in cash, 1228 grams of gold jewellery, 948 grams of silver objects and 10 four-wheelers were found. Besides, 316 documents and two bank locker keys related to the case have also been seized. The case is under investigation.

This was stated in a press release issued by the DVAC.
