'Govt. takes necessary steps to prevent elephants being hit by trains:' Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Seva Singh in Coimbatore

The Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest laid a wreath at the Forest Martyrs' Memorial in the Forest High Training Institute campus in Coimbatore on the occasion of Forest Martyrs' Day.


Coimbatore: Even as Forest Martyrs' Day was observed on September 11 to commemorate the death of forest personnel who lost their lives during forest conservation, fire prevention and anti-poaching activities, the Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Seva Singh laid a wreath at the Forest Martyrs' Memorial in the Forest High Training Institute campus on Cowley Brown Road in Coimbatore, on Sunday.

"The Government is taking necessary steps to prevent the death of elephants due to train-hits," stated the Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Seva Singh while speaking to reporters in Coimbatore.

"The Tamil Nadu Government has been observing 'Forest Day' since 2017 and this year, four of our people died during forest duty. In Valparai, a tiger cub abandoned by its mother is being trained to hunt animals for food. The Government of Tamil Nadu has also taken all necessary steps to allot additional space for this kind of training. The Government is also taking necessary steps to prevent the death of elephants due to being hit by trains," he added.

The Chief Minister of the Central Training Institute for State Forest Services, Thirunavukkarasu, Mudumalai Tiger Reserve Field Director Venkatesh, District Forest Officer Ashok Kumar and others were present on the occasion.
