Pilgrims to Palani and public will largely benefit, if the Dindigul to Coimbatore train service via Palani is restored - Dindigul MP writes to Railways Ministry

Pilgrims to Palani Temple and many passengers from villages in this region who wish to travel to Chennai and Southem districts of Tamil Nadu will benefit from this train service. Also, workers, employees, students and general public who travel from Oddanchatram and Palani towards Udumaiaipettai, Pollachi and Coimbatore will benefit by extension of these train services.

Coimbatore: After spending more than Rs.1000 crores for gauge conversion, the restoration of Dindigul to Coimbatore train service via Palani ; Oddanchatram which is the shortest route is pending for approval in Southern Railways, noted MP P. Velusamy of Dindigul district in a letter to the Central Railways Minister.

In his letter he noted that "On behalf of the people of my constituency I request you to extend the Coimbatore - Pollachi train (06419) that reaches Pollachi at around 19.30 pm until Dindigul. In the return journey train number (06420) shall originate from Dindigul at around 4.45 am and reach Pollachi at 7.45 am (via Oddanchatram, Palani, Udumalaipettai) and it will arrive at 8.45 am in Coimbatore.

Also, one more trip departing Coimbatore at 9.15 am to arrive at 13.15 pm in Dindigul will be used extensively by the passengers. In the retum journey this train will depart Dindigul at 14.00 pm to reach Coimbatore at 18.00 pm.

Without incurring any extra burden for railways, extension of the train service is possible as the train racks are readily available in Coimbatore and the under- utilised Coimbatore - Pollachi - Palani - Dindigul section can be used judicially for the betterment of the general public, as well as to augment the income for railways without any burden.

This train service links the two important lines of Southern Railways which is Chennai - Salem - Coimbatore -Thiruvananthapuram- Kanyakumari line and Chennai - Trichy - Dindigul - Madurai - Tirunelveli - Kanyakumari line which will be largely useful for passengers to travel to many cities" he requested in his letter.
