Tirupur man murder update: Police dig up pit inside house in Tirupur to ascertain if more corpses were buried

After a search of more than five hours, the police confirmed that there were no more corpses in the pit.

Tirupur: In a shocking incident on Wednesday, a man's charred body was recovered from Pongupalayam in Tirupur.

A pit in a house in the area was dug up on suspicion that more corpses could be buried in it.

The 15-Velampalayam police registered a case in this regard and were investigating but since no clues were found, they examined the CCTV footage from Anna Nagar to Thyagi Kumaran Colony. There was also a foul smell emanating from a locked house in the area.

On suspicion, the police questioned neighbours and discovered that five persons - husband, wife, two children and the woman's mother - lived in that house on rent for the past three months. Investigations also revealed that only the mother-in-law had reportedly gone to her native place on Wednesday morning.

When the police scoured the house, they found tell-tale signs of a pit having been dug inside the house. Following this, the police started digging the site on the suspicion that more bodies may have been buried.

On surface digging, the skin of a human wrist was first discovered and hence the police kept digging deeper to find out if there were more corpses inside the pit.

Police Commissioner Prabhakaran visited the spot and inspected it. A large number of people from the area gathered in front of the house following reports that a body was buried in the house which also made locals tense in the area. After a search of more than five hours, the police confirmed that there were no more corpses in the pit. The skin is suspected to be from the charred man's wrist who could have been murdered and buried in the house.

The 15-Velampalayam police have formed four special squads to investigate the possibility that the body of the man might have been taken out to be exhumed. They are also investigating the persons living in the house and their current status.
