Mother beats her two children to death with iron rod; Consumes insecticide in suicide bid in Tirupur

The mother was reportedly suffering from constant severe headaches and in one such severe bout killed her two children by beating them with an iron rod near Tirupur and then tried to commit suicide by consuming insecticide.


Tirupur: A mother who was suffering from constant severe headaches killed her two children by beating them with an iron rod near Tirupur and then tried to commit suicide by drinking insecticide.

Kanakasambath is a farmer from Atthampalayam, Vellakovil, Tirupur district who lives with his wife Revathi (40), their daughter Harshita (13) studying in Class 8 and son Kalaivendan (7) studying in Class 2. The farmer owns a house in the garden adjacent to Tirupur town and a house inside the town.

Revathi has been receiving treatment at a private hospital in Coimbatore for the past four months due to recurring headaches. It is reported that when Revathi's headaches gets worse, Revathi behaves abnormally.

On Tuesday evening, after visiting the Kanakasambath Shop Road, Revathi reportedly took her two children who had returned from school to the garden house near Revathi's village, beat her two children to death with an iron rod, consumed insecticide and was in a state of unconsciousness thereafter. .

When Kanakasambath returned home and witnessed the gruesome scene at the house, he immediately called for help and with the help of his neighbours rescued his wife and admitted her at the Kangeyam Government Hospital. Revathi was administered first aid at the hospital and then moved to a private hospital in Coimbatore for further treatment.

Vellakoil Police Inspector Ramadevi and a police team went to the garden house and recovered the bodies of the two dead children. The corpses were then sent to the Government Hospital for autopsy. The Vellakoil police have registered a case of murder against Revathi and are investigating. The incident sent shockwaves in the neighbourhood.
