TN Chief Minister to inaugurate boat ride at Valankulam in Coimbatore on Aug. 24

For a 30-minute ride, the fare is Rs.300 for the pedal boat, Rs.350 for the row boat and Rs.1,000 for the motorboat, with a temporary 20 percent discount on the fare.


Coimbatore: Under the Smart City Project, the banks of Ukkadam Periyakulam, Valankulam and Kurichi Kulam in Coimbatore have been spruced up and developed. Recreational facilities, including widow walkway have been put in place on the banks of Valankulam on Ukkadam-Sungam Bypass Road so that visitors can walk on the water.

There is a provision of sports equipment for pavement seers and work on the cycle track has reached the completion stage.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M K Stalin who is on a four-day visit to Coimbatore will inaugurate the boat house for public use on August 24 from a function that he is scheduled to attend at Eachanari.

The Corporation and Tourism Development Corporation officials stated that a total of 20 boats including pedal boats, oar boats and motor boats will be operated at the Valankulam Boat House. While two people can ride on a pedal boat, four people can ride on the rowboat including the main rider of the row boat.

The motor boat can carry up to 8 people at a time. For a 30-minute ride, the fare is Rs.300 for the pedal boat, Rs.350 for the row boat and Rs.1,000 for the motorboat. There is also a temporary 20 percent discount on this fare.

With locals demanding that boating should begin in Valankulam since it is located in the main part of the city as a recreational activity, a boat house was established at a cost of Rs.45 lakhs in association with the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation on behalf of the Corporation administration. Boats have also been brought in and are on standby.
