Traffic Diversion effected to facilitate test run of 110KV underground cable system at Ukkadam

First trial run of the underground cable system is being taken up today between 8 am to 10 am today and the power shutdowns would be affected in Ukkadam and Karumbukadai areas when testing is carried out in the underground cable systems.


Coimbatore: Traffic diversions have been effected in the city due to a trial run being carried out in the110 kV underground cable system laid at Ukkadam. As per the arrangement the vehicles proceeding from Ukkadam to Pollachi road, and Palakad road have been asked to use Perur bypass road, Puttuvikkia, and Chunnambukalavai stretch

In the meanwhile, the first trial run of the underground cable system is being taken up today due to which power shut down have been effected in the area. The trial run is scheduled to take place between 8 am to 10 am today and the power shutdowns would be affected in Ukkadam and Karumbukadai areas when testing is carried out in the underground cable systems.



The underground cable laying works for the laying ofHT cable wires were taken up as the overhead cable wires had proved a hindrance to the implementation of the 450- the Crore flyover project near the Ukkadam Bus stand. The cable line was laid from the Ukkadam tank to the Substation stretch.

According to Highway officials,the works for theKarumbukadai- Aathupalaum second stretch of the bridge have already been expedited. The works for the 1.9 km bridge commenced in April 2018 for the first stage of the bridge span between Ukkadam to Karumbukadi at a total outlay of Rs.216 crores. The span is designed with 55 pillars and works to construct a roundtana at the bridge have also been underway near the Ukkadam bus stand.



The second stage of the bridge between Karumbukadi and Athaupalam is being implemented at a total outlay of Rs.265.44 crores. With this, the total lenght of the bridge would have a span of 2.4km.

According to Highways officials, the Ukkadam- Aathupalam bridge works is being expedited and completed in the next 10 months and opened for public utility.
