City Police adopt multi-pronged approach to end drug menance in Coimbatore - Police Commissioner Balakrishnan

Briefing the media persons, after taking the drug eradication pledge with District Collector, and over 1000 college students, the Commissioner said two special teams have been formed to check ganja sales in the city.


Coimbatore: The war against the rooting out the drug menace in the city has begun and the police are adopting a multi-pronged approach to end the menace. The menace would be cracked down with active coordination with the district administration, said Police Commissioner Balakrishanan here, on Thursday.

Briefing the media persons, after taking the drug eradication pledge with District CollectorG.S. Sameeran and over 1000 college students, he said two special teams have been formed to check ganja sales in the city.

"The police have seized over 20 kg of ganja sold in the city on two occasions in recent times and the persons involved have been arrested.76 persons have been arrested for engaging in banned gukta sale and 812 kg of banned narcotic drugs were seized from them", the Commissioner apprised.

He added that surveillance have been intensified to check and prevent the sale of ganja near schools and colleges in the city.

"Adopting a multi-pronged approach the police is creating awareness on the one hand and taking stern action to prevent the sale and distribution of drugs on the other" the Commissioner said.
