Elephant trapped in flooded Athirappilly Falls near Valparai in Coimbatore

Rescue efforts are ongoing by the Kerala Forest Department and the general public.


Coimbatore: A lone wild elephant that emerged from the forest area was caught in the flood waters of Athirappilly Falls near Valparai in Coimbatore and rescue efforts are ongoing by the Kerala Forest Department and the general public.

Due to heavy rains in the forest areas of Athirappilly in Kerala, the Falls was flooded on Monday night. Water was also released from a dam called Peringalkuthu which has further resulted in the flooding of rivers.



At Pillapara, a lone wild elephant that emerged from the forest area was caught in the flood waters of the Athirappilly Falls near Valparai in Coimbatore and has been helplessly roaming, unable to come out of the water. Rescue efforts are ongoing by the Kerala Forest Department and the public in saving the elephant.
