TPDK commemorates the 43rd death anniversary of Thanthai Periyar.

Rationalism, self-respect, women's right and eradication of caste were his life-time propaganda, UNESCO accoladed him as "the prophet of the new age, the Socrates of South East Asia, father of social reform movement and arch enemy of ignorance, superstitions, meaningless customs and base manners'. E.V. Ramasamy alias 'Thanthai Periyar' undoubtedly deserves all these titles and honours. He earnestly dedicated his life-time teaching and preaching humans to live with self-respect and rationalism.

Today marks the 43rd death anniversary of of the great scholar, 'Thanthai Periyar'. His ardent followers termed as 'Periyarist' have organised several programmes in the city to commemorate his death anniversary through their entity 'Thanthai Dravidar Periyar Kalagam' (TPDK).  The events will be hosted at Vijaya Commercial Complex, Singanallur, Trichy Road.

Varied scholars from the field of tamil literature will deliver guest lectures during this two-day event. MLA Karthick of Singanallur Constituency and Pongallur Palanisamy, Ex-Minister of DMK party will deliver the welcome address, this morning. Followed by keynote sessions by Tamil scholars, a team from Chennai comprising of 12 'Periyarists' will be honored at the for their earnest contribution in spreading the word of 'Periyarism' at various campaigns.

100 books on 'Dravidam' will be released tomorrow by MDMK, President Vaikoo who will be presiding over the function. The first copy of the book will be received by M. Rajendran, Vice-Chancellor of Thanjavur Tamil University. The two-day event that was flagged off today will witness Tamil scholars, members from various social organisations and political fraternities.
